Week 1 Update (9/25-9/29)

This week's progress consisted primarily of researching robotic simulation/visualization software, establishing required project documents and documentation, and troubleshooting tutorials for ROS. The total hours logged this week for the team was: 28 hours. Below are screenshots and photos documenting what was accomplished this week.  Fig 1. YouTube tutorial playlist | ROS and Raspberry Pi This YouTube playlist was found/assigned to the CS team by an ECE Mouse Droid teammate. The videos by Articulated Robots provide a tutorial on how to create a simulated mapping robot using ROS and a Linux machine.  Upon following these tutorials, we came to the conclusion that attempting the same steps on a Linux Virtual Machine was far too taxing for our personal computers to handle. Week 9 Update (11/27 - 12/1)

This week's progress centered around troubleshooting issues and then starting to alter our existing attempts at Ackermann Steering to work without any additional axles or parts to the simulation. Progress this week could have been minimal as going to the desktop on Wednesday led to the discovery that the Wifi Dongle attached to the monitor was no longer working. After much troubleshooting, we ultimately discovered that an unknown party unplugged the Wifi Dongle we were using and replaced it with a broken one; likely thinking that the broken one was a usb to connect a wireless keyboard and mouse. Solving the issue allowed us to begin reworking the current Ackermann model we created (which accidentally mmade the little robot into a helicopter). We aim to continue development on the reworked Ackermann model -- and hopefully have it done over the break -- so that the next semester can focus on the next phase of the project. Week 7 Update (11/6 - 11/10)

 This week's progress centered around updating the droid's simulated dimensions. Accuracy is integral in creating as realistic an environment as possible to minimize any hiccups in the ultimate transition from the simulation to the actual droid itself. Droid specs were acquired from MEs and reflected in our updated code. A new GitHub repository was also created, due to technical difficulties with parent folder permissions with our previous directory. Gazebo was successfully installed and now runs smoothly, the team also created a shortcut/wrapper file to run repetitive launch commands more efficiently. Motion tests were conducted in Gazebo as well, the droid now can move in a simulated environment using keyboard commands as input. The current challenges at this stage are as follows: The simulated droid currently in development only moves using it's back two tires (for forward/backward/turning) and pushes "frictionless" front tires that do not turn.
